he Office of Fellowships invites sophomores who are interested in public service careers to learn more about the Obama Chesky Voyager Scholarship. The scholarship has some really unique and amazing benefits, not only $50,000 toward your tuition for junior and senior year, but also $10,000 to fund a “summer voyage” of discovery abroad and $2,000 in travel funding each year for ten years after you are awarded the scholarship. They are looking for students who are already developing a leadership record in civic engagement; the competition is open to all majors and disciplines, but restricted to US citizens, US permanent residents, and DACA students. Students must apply in spring of the sophomore year.
Here are a few first resources to consult if you want to learn more:
- Profile of the scholarship on the Office of Fellowships webpage
- Recording from an event last February with Obama Foundation staff and Voyager Scholar Michael Gadinis
- Handout with Voyager Scholarship basic info (from the February event)
- List of Voyager Scholars on the Obama Foundation website – you’ll see there’s a huge range of majors, causes, and interests!
The application isn’t open quite yet, but the Voyager Scholarship deadline is usually in March, so if you want to apply, get in touch with me by email before the end of January, and I’ll include you in emails about group writing workshops and individual draft review appointments.
There’s more info on a range of fellowship opportunities on the Office of Fellowships website. Students are welcome to email fellowships@wesleyan.edu or book an appointment if they have further questions.
