Deans’ Peer Tutoring Program’s services
- The default tutoring group size is 5 students – 1 tutor. Language courses are 2 students – 1 tutor. Each group meets for 2hrs/week. No exceptions can be made for requests to decrease group sizes or increase weekly tutoring hours.
- PHYS 111, 113, 213: Students should see their faculty, who will match them with a tutor.
- MATH 119, 121, 122, 132: Students should go to Math Jam (https://www.wesleyan.edu/sar/tutoring/STEMZone.html#mathjam). Math Jam now has a dedicated website that lists, among other things, social (math-related) events: https://christa.wescreates.wesleyan.edu/mathjam/
- ECON 101 & 110: Students should go to Econ Zone (https://www.wesleyan.edu/sar/tutoring/STEMZone.html#econzone)
- Chemistry: Students should submit a tutoring request to our office, but the Chemistry department will do the matches. They will give priority to students on pace for a grade lower than a B-. There is a drop-in tutor in the STEM Zone for CHEM 141-143-251.
- HIST 300: Students should see their faculty to get connected to a tutor.
- Other courses: Students should follow the steps below to request a peer tutoring group. The Tutor Request Form will open on Friday, September 15 at 5 p.m. Within 1 week of the request submission, we will notify the student if they receive a match, have to wait (until we can recruit more tutors, have enough requests to start a new group, hear back from the faculty…), or we cannot fulfill their request.
- Several instructors, TAs, and tutors hold office hours in the STEM Zone (https://www.wesleyan.edu/sar/tutoring/STEMZone.html)
Steps for Requesting a Peer Tutor
- Look into other resources first! -Meet with your faculty through their office hours for assistance with any course-related material
-If there is a TA for your course, contact and seek help from them as well
-If there is a drop-in tutoring resource available for your course, try that too! - Discuss your request for a tutor with your course instructor in order to clarify which specific areas you need help with, and how a tutor can be most helpful. In some courses, your request cannot be considered without a faculty’s referral – they can refer you by emailing deans_peer_tutoring@wesleyan.edu
- Complete the Tutor Request Form
- Wait for an email with information about your tutoring match
